JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Having successfully pioneered the Asian Physics Olympiad, Indonesia re-create the innovation. This time, Indonesian scientists who are members of the Institute held a World Solar Physics Olimpiad (WoPho).
Unlike the Olympic Games, the Olympics are usually held for 5-8 days, the execution time WoPho held a full year. To follow WoPho, participants must pass through three stages, namely, selection round, round discussion, and final round.
Selection round open to anyone around the world who have started in January last until June 2011. In this round, participants were given ten questions of physics that can be downloaded via www.wopho.org.
"Because it's hard, but the answer can be sought from the journals, paper physics, physics book, physics or any article from the Internet. Participants that are capable of doing about 78 percent of the final round were invited as participants," said the founder of Surya Institute, Yohannes Surya, WoPho in a press conference at Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, Thursday (12/22/2011).
He explained that the discussion round to fall in July-December 2011. The purpose of this stage is to popularize physics through the medium of discussion. Anyone can become a participant to participate in discussing the physics olympiad questions given on the stage of selection round and about the same level of physics to the physics olympiad.
"Here the candidates discuss the future physicists. They are most active will get a prize," he said.
Meanwhile, the final stage of the final round will be held on December 28, 2011 until January 3, 2012. In this round, participant selection round, the gold medalist in the Asian Physics Olympiad International Physics Ilympiad and, along with students from the world's top universities (MIT, Harvard, Caltech, Tsing Hua, and so on) will compete to be the best in the world in the field of physics .
"Final round is the most exciting. Our theme let's beat the champion. Here will determine who the best of the best in the field of physics," said John.
Participants will participate in the final round held in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara are from 15 countries including Indonesia, the number of participants around 130 people. The best winner will get a prize of 20 thousand dollars and 10 thousand dollars for the category of The Best Theotrical Result, and The Best Experimental Result.
